Chapter 11 - Room 1303 (8)

Having found the previous owner's sore spot, the shopkeeper bought the wedding gown back to his store for a very low price. That very night, he eagerly dressed the plastic mannequin in the wedding gown. As expected, he was not disappointed. Just as he was about to close up for the day, a young girl came into the shop.

Just like before, the moment the young girl stepped into the shop, her eyes were drawn to the wedding gown on the mannequin. She immediately asked to buy it, without even asking for the price.

The shopkeeper was secretly delighted and unhesitatingly quoted a ridiculously high price. In his eyes, the craftsmanship of this wedding gown was worth the price, so it wasn't too outrageous to ask for more.

After hearing the shopkeeper's price, the young girl immediately called a few friends and managed to pool together the money he asked for. Then, she paid and left. As she took the gown, her expression was one of extraordinary joy.

With a sale made, the shopkeeper hummed a happy tune, cheerfully turned off the shop's lights, and went home.

The next day, the shopkeeper opened his store as usual. But as he entered and began his routine cleaning, he suddenly noticed something was off—the female mannequin seemed to have moved. The shopkeeper panicked, thinking a thief had broken in. He rushed forward to check on the female mannequin; after all, it was the prized treasure of his shop.

However, as the owner got close to the mannequin and looked at the wedding gown on it, he suddenly remembered something terrifying. Hadn't this wedding gown been sold yesterday? How did it come back today?

The shopkeeper remembered what the previous owner who sold him the wedding gown had said. A layer of cold sweat formed on his forehead. Trembling, he tried to pull the wedding gown off the mannequin to take a closer look, but the moment his hand touched the mannequin's hand, his body instantly stiffened.

The mannequin's hand was actually warm, and its touch was no longer that of plastic, but of human skin...

The shopkeeper fought back his fear and slowly turned the mannequin, which was facing the display window, around. The moment he saw the mannequin's face, he let out a terrified scream, "How can this be!"

The plastic mannequin from his store was gone. In its place was the young girl who had bought the wedding gown. She was wearing the wedding gown, her face fixed in a smile as stiff as a plastic mannequin's, her eyes staring blankly, like a lifeless statue.

It was said that on that day, many people saw the shopkeeper scrambling and crawling as he fled his store.

After that, the shopkeeper's store closed down, and the plastic mannequin was never seen again. This story became something of an urban legend.

Song Qingluo fell silent after he finished. Lin Banxia and Ji Leshui had listened with great interest, both looking like they wanted more.

"That's not right. If everyone who sees this mannequin wants to wear her clothes, then why didn't Lin Banxia wear them? You didn't, and that shopkeeper didn't either?" Ji Leshui felt he had discovered a loophole.

"It has to do with the strength of each person's spiritual sensitivity," Song Qingluo said. "Some people are more sensitive and can perceive subtle anomalies. These people are easily influenced. Others are less sensitive, so the influence isn't as strong."

"Oh." Ji Leshui scratched his head, but then remembered he still had the Phoenix Coronet on his head. With a slightly awkward expression, he said he would go change his clothes first.

After Ji Leshui went into the bedroom, Lin Banxia turned to Song Qingluo and asked, "Are there many things like this in the world?"

Song Qingluo said, "Not many, but not few either."

Lin Banxia said, "Then is the house we live in one of them?"

Song Qingluo said, "Yes."

Lin Banxia said, "Could the box in your living room also be..."

Song Qingluo raised a finger to his lips in a hushing gesture. Lin Banxia pressed his lips together and swallowed the question in his heart.

Ji Leshui changed his clothes and came out, not daring to look directly at the female mannequin. Fortunately, Song Qingluo explained that this female mannequin could only bewitch people three times. Apart from the wedding gown she was wearing, the effects of other clothes only lasted for three days before they wore off. So it wasn't dangerous, just a little scary at most.

Lin Banxia asked, "Then how long does this wedding gown last?"

Song Qingluo said flatly, "Without interruption, until death."

Lin Banxia: "..."

Hearing this, Ji Leshui thought of the shop and the girl from Song Qingluo's story. A chilling feeling crept over him as he wondered how Song Qingluo knew that this wedding gown's effect could last until death...

After all this commotion, the sky had completely darkened. Song Qingluo moved the Plastic Female Mannequin into his bedroom.

Although Ji Leshui was still a little spooked to be here alone, he indeed hadn't seen any more terrifying illusions that afternoon. So, with Lin Banxia's reassurance, he reluctantly agreed to stay in Song Qingluo's house by himself.

Song Qingluo, however, was indifferent. If Ji Leshui had insisted on refusing, it could only be said that it was his fate. He never forced help on those who couldn't be saved.

After comforting Ji Leshui, Song Qingluo and Lin Banxia went to the adjacent apartment to rest.

Tonight was another moonless night. Dark clouds pressed down, as if a thick curtain was draped over the sky. The wind howled outside the window. Lin Banxia and Song Qingluo sat in front of the TV, not speaking, sharing a comfortable silence.

A variety show was playing on TV. It wasn't boring, but it wasn't particularly interesting either. Lin Banxia suddenly felt a little cold. He reached for a cushion on the sofa and hugged it.

Perhaps because the wind was too strong, the closed window suddenly started rattling. Lin Banxia was about to get up and close it, but as he stood, he suddenly remembered that this was the same window from the painting that had scared Ji Leshui a few days ago. At the time, he had even wiped a bloody handprint off the inside of the glass... wait, the inside of the glass?

A sudden realization hit Lin Banxia. If the bloody handprint was on the inside, did that mean the thing that made it was inside the room? Now Ji Leshui was gone, but he was still sitting in the room... Goosebumps immediately broke out on his back, and he swallowed uneasily.

Seeing him standing frozen in place, Song Qingluo asked softly, "What's wrong?"

Lin Banxia quietly told him what had happened a few days ago.

Song Qingluo said, "So?"

Lin Banxia said, "So I'm a little scared. Could you please close the window for me?"

Song Qingluo: "..."

Lin Banxia: 0.0

Looking at Lin Banxia's wide, round eyes, Song Qingluo said helplessly, "Why weren't you scared then?"

Lin Banxia: "0.0 It didn't register."

Song Qingluo: "..."

Lin Banxia: "0.0 Thinking about it now, it's so damn terrifying."

Song Qingluo: "..." In the end, he gave up on discussing the issue with Lin Banxia, silently walked to the window, and shut it tight.

Lin Banxia thanked Song Qingluo gratefully and said he wanted to take a shower, as the scare had left him in a cold sweat.

Song Qingluo really couldn't hold back and said, "It's been two or three days, and you're only just reacting?"

Lin Banxia lowered his head, holding his change of clothes, and said, "That's fast for me. That's fast. Normally it would take a month."

Song Qingluo: "..."

Lin Banxia took a shower, finally washing away the fear brought on by his epiphany. He then happily ate a bowl of high-calorie nuts before going to bed. Of course, he was still considerate enough not to forget to call Ji Leshui before sleeping to ask how he was doing.

Ji Leshui answered the phone normally, saying nothing major was wrong, except that he kept hearing snoring from next door and asked if it was Song Qingluo.

Lin Banxia peeked his head out and saw Song Qingluo still watching TV in the living room. Against his conscience, he said yes.

"Hah, it's really him. You scared me for a second," Ji Leshui said. "He looks so refined and is so thin, yet he snores so loudly. You really can't judge a book by its cover."

Lin Banxia mumbled some vague agreements, asking Ji Leshui if he felt uncomfortable in any other way. Ji Leshui yawned and said that he didn't. He had felt cold before, but it got much better after coming to Song Qingluo's house. Although the snoring was a bit loud, it didn't bother him; in fact, it gave the place a sense of life.

'A sense of life, huh,' Lin Banxia thought.

"I'm going to sleep then," Ji Leshui said. "You should get some sleep too."

"Good night," Lin Banxia said.

After hanging up, Lin Banxia turned off the bedroom light. He was sleeping in Ji Leshui's room, because Song Qingluo disliked the fact that Ji Leshui's room had no window, so Lin Banxia had temporarily swapped with him. With the bedroom light off, only a faint glow came from the living room. Lin Banxia stared at the ceiling, trying to get sleepy.

However, just as he was about to fall asleep, he seemed to faintly hear a strange chewing sound—sticky, slow, as if chewing on tough meat that was hard to tear. The sound came from the wardrobe beside him, circling right by Lin Banxia's ear.

Lin Banxia lay on the bed, motionless.

The sound grew louder. A dark crack slowly appeared in the wardrobe door. Inside the crack, a single bloody eye appeared, maliciously spying on the person on the bed.

Lin Banxia still didn't move.

The single eye in the wardrobe became a pair, then three, and finally, countless eyes filled every crack of the wardrobe. Each one was a vibrant blood-red, with pupils the size of a pinprick.

"Huu... huu..." Faint snores came from the mouth of the person lying on the bed.

The wardrobe crack, which had been widening, suddenly stopped, as if shocked by the faint snoring. If they could speak, they would have certainly cursed fiercely: You can fucking sleep through this?

Meanwhile, the person sitting in the living room, still watching TV out of boredom, had a deep smile form in his eyes.

The author has something to say:

Lin Banxia, the Internet Explorer of the human world.

A quick explanation, a 10-sided die has numbers 0-9. One represents the tens place, one represents the units place, and 00 is 100.
