Chapter 17 - Meal Card

Xie Yu slept straight through until the end of class.

University classrooms possessed a hypnotic magic. The autumn sunlight was just right, and when he woke up, he felt even more comfortable than sleeping in a hotel.

It was just that his neck ached a little.

The bell had just rung, signaling the end of the class, yet Shen Ci was still surrounded by a circle of people holding their exercise books and waiting for him to explain the problems.

Shen Ci explained them one by one, his pen leaving beautiful handwriting on the paper. Xie Yu propped his chin on his hand and watched from the side, waiting for him to finish.

University students before finals always had countless questions. Dragging on like this, twenty minutes passed. The hand Shen Ci used to hold his pen paused slightly, and he glanced at Xie Yu with a hint of unease, afraid that he was getting impatient from waiting.

According to Young Master Xie's temper, only others waited for him; he never waited for others.

Xie Yu didn't mind at all. He was emptying his mind, stuffing things like his car keys from the desk drawer into his bag, quietly waiting for the final plot point.

He had to forcibly drag Shen Ci out of the classroom in front of everyone.

In the original novel, Shen Ci was considered an influential figure at A University. Many people had a favorable impression of this aloof senior. Even though he was born into poverty, working part-time to support his studies while taking care of his grandmother, his grades never dropped, and he won scholarships every year. When underclassmen mentioned him, it was always with admiration.

And the original host wanted to destroy this admiration.

Young Master Xie himself was ignorant and incompetent, indulging in eating, drinking, whoring, and gambling. He found good students to be an eyesore, especially the aloof and highly-principled ones like Shen Ci. Seeing Shen Ci surrounded in the middle, looking so highly respected, made his teeth itch with hatred. Without waiting for the Q&A to finish, he dragged him away with a dark expression. His movements were rough and his methods tyrannical. According to the original description, Shen Ci was still wearing that thing at the time, and when dragged by him, almost dropped to his knees on the spot.

At that time, there were already many rumors going around the school about Shen Ci. Talks of him clinging to the rich and being a gigolo were rampant. The original host's drag directly confirmed these rumors. Shen Ci's reputation was swept to the ground, and even his mentor caught wind of it.

Shen Ci's mentor was a rigid old scholar who valued reputation the most. For many major projects afterward, he intentionally or unintentionally avoided Shen Ci, turning him from the core of the laboratory into an expendable outcast.

Watching time slip away minute by minute as the crowd asking questions gradually thinned, the System popped up and poked Xie Yu, "Are you still not making a move?"

Xie Yu calmly observed, "No rush, let's wait a bit longer."

'In front of everyone' didn't specify how many people 'everyone' was. Ten people was 'everyone', twenty people was 'everyone', so why couldn't two or three people be 'everyone'?

Because Xie Yu kept his attention entirely on the podium, he didn't notice that someone in the front row had been staring at him.

Han Yunyun buried her face behind a textbook, revealing only a pair of distinct black-and-white big eyes, secretly observing Xie Yu.

She was also a teaching assistant for the course, responsible for grading homework and helping Shen Ci out. She had noticed Xie Yu from the very first moment he stepped into the classroom: this tall handsome guy had a handsome face, long legs, and even drove a Bentley to school. It would be hard not to notice him.

Of course, what Han Yunyun cared about even more was the scarf around Xie Yu's neck.

The scarf's material was excellent, the fluff delicate, and the brand was a niche luxury brand that wasn't cheap. Based on Han Yunyun's understanding, Senior Brother Shen couldn't afford such a scarf. But now, her senior brother was wearing the exact same style as the handsome guy in the back row. This meant that the handsome guy in the back row must have bought it.

Hidden behind the cover of the textbook, Han Yunyun's fingers were typing so fast on her phone that they were almost striking sparks.

"Li Yue, Li Yue! Do you remember that big handsome guy in the Bentley? The one who helped Senior Brother Shen dry his hair! He came to school today!"

"Holy crap, just a fleeting glimpse back then made me think he was super handsome, but he's even more handsome in person!"

"He's even wearing a couple's scarf with Senior Brother Shen! And! And! He listened to Senior Brother Shen teach an entire class!!!"

"Pharmacokinetics! Such a boring class! A class even I can't bear to listen to! He! Finished! Listening! To! It!"

This course was famously boring. Even A University's own students were unwilling to listen, and the truancy rate remained stubbornly high. It once set a record of having four hundred students enrolled, but less than a hundred showed up for roll call. If it weren't nearing the finals, the classroom would have been completely empty.

Han Yunyun typed, "Everyone on the forum is talking about him being a kept man or a contract lover, but I said that was impossible."

With Senior Brother Shen's personality, how could he possibly be kept by someone?

Although she didn't know what a real sugar baby contract looked like, she had never eaten pork but had seen pigs run. With so many contract relationships in movies and TV shows, which wealthy family didn't cover things up, wishing they could be like ancient emperors and wrap their playthings in a quilt to be carried straight to their beds? How could they swagger through the streets wearing couple's scarves, or waste half a day making a special trip to a classroom just to listen to someone teach a specialized course?

She made her final verdict: "It's definitely true love!"

At this point, most of the questions had been answered, and only a scattered few people remained at the podium. Shen Ci was wiping the blackboard and gathering the chalk. Han Yunyun's gaze flickered to Xie Yu, and seeing him resting his chin on his hand in a daze, not paying attention to their side, she took a step forward, leaned close to Shen Ci, and asked in a very small voice, "Senior Brother, is that really good-looking guy in the back row waiting for you?"

The hand Shen Ci used to hold the chalk paused slightly. "Why do you ask?"

Not denying it meant silently admitting it.

Han Yunyun's gossiping heart burned fiercely. She immediately leaned even closer, avoiding Xie Yu's sight, half-covering her face with the textbook, and whispered stealthily, "Senior Brother, look, isn't your scarf the same style as his? How coincidental is it that you two bought the same one..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Xie Yu's gaze slowly drifted over.

The System said, "Hurry, hurry, Host! There are only a few people left!"

Xie Yu's gaze landed on Han Yunyun, and his eyebrows twitched uncontrollably.

Undeniably, an emotion called displeasure rose in his heart. This emotion came without any logic. Taking advantage of the System's urging, he abruptly stood up.

A contract agreement was, after all, not something that could be brought out into the open. At the podium, facing his junior sister's slightly curious probing, Shen Ci slightly lowered his eyes, avoiding her gaze, and only covered it up by saying, "Is it? It's probably just a coincidence..."

Before he could finish the word 'coincidence', a sudden strong force grabbed his wrist.

Xie Yu's slightly displeased expression appeared in his line of sight. His hair was messy from sleeping, and his expression was gloomy, like a lion awakened from its slumber. Just like that, he locked his grip on Shen Ci and forcibly dragged him away.

Before Shen Ci could react, his legs were already moving along. He stumbled a couple of steps, hurriedly keeping up with Xie Yu, his expression one of helpless shock.

"Wow." The System applauded. "Great acting, Host! You got all the main points from the original text. I can give this segment full marks."

Look at this gloomy expression, look at these somewhat rough movements, look at this arrogant rich second-generation behavior, and then look at Shen Ci's staggering footsteps and helpless expression...

The System evaluated, "Perfect!"

Han Yunyun was left dumbfounded.

She watched her senior brother get dragged away by the unfamiliar handsome guy. After recovering from her stupor, she couldn't help but click her tongue and say disdainfully, "Pulling and tugging like that, how improper."

It was still in the classroom! And right in front of his junior sister! Couldn't they show a little restraint!

Truly, public morals are degenerating with each passing day, and people are not what they used to be!

Over here, Shen Ci was pulled by Xie Yu and followed him all the way out of the teaching building. After a brief moment of thought, he realized what had happened. There was actually some distance between him and Han Yunyun at the time, but from Xie Yu's angle, part of his line of sight was blocked by the textbook, so he couldn't clearly see what was going on.

"Xie Yu..." Shen Ci used his free hand to tug at Xie Yu's sleeve. "I wasn't..."

He looked at Young Master Xie's handsome side profile. Mottled tree shadows cast upon his nose bridge, creating a play of flickering light and shadow. Shen Ci rarely felt an emotion known as panic, but he did now.

Whether according to the terms of the contract or from any other aspect, it was his mistake.

Xie Yu, of course, knew he wasn't. Han Yunyun was a relatively important female supporting character in the novel. When Shen Ci was beaten into the hospital by the original host, Han Yunyun had paid a lot of his medical bills. Furthermore, it was written very clearly in the text that she liked the sunny and cheerful big boy type. This was completely opposite to Shen Ci's style and completely unrelated.

"I know." Xie Yu stopped and looked at Shen Ci with an unfriendly expression. "But you dragged it out for too long. I'm hungry."

It had been over forty minutes since class ended, enough time to teach another class.

It was clearly a dissatisfied tone.

If it had been before, Shen Ci might have tensed his body, waiting for all of Young Master Xie's impending scolding. But now, he only paused slightly, pulled a campus card out of his windbreaker pocket, and asked a bit helplessly, "I... I'll treat you to a meal?"

Xie Yu put his hands in his pockets. "Alright."

He hadn't studied much in high school and his university was only average. There was only one cafeteria on his entire campus, and the taste was just passable. Therefore, he was somewhat curious about the cafeteria of a top-tier institution like A University.

A University was the highest institution of learning in Jiang City, and its cafeterias also enjoyed a good reputation among all the universities in Jiang City. There were four major cafeterias on campus. Right next to the main teaching building was one of them—a three-story building with a fair-faced concrete exterior set with patterned tiles and glass curtain walls. It was bright and spacious, providing a place for students to dine after class.

The food at this cafeteria tasted good, but it was expensive; even fried rice cost around twenty yuan. Shen Ci didn't come here often.

He led Xie Yu inside, walked a circle around all the windows, and asked, a little constrained, "What do you want to eat?"

It was already past mealtime, and only a few scattered people were left in the cafeteria. Many windows were closed. Xie Yu scanned the area. "Grilled fish."

There was a grilled fish window right in the middle of the cafeteria.

Shen Ci's gaze swept over the menu, estimating the approximate price, and he nodded. "Okay."

Since he was treating, Xie Yu placed the order. Standing in front of the window, he chose a meal for two. Shen Ci calculated the balance on his card, breathed a slight sigh of relief, and handed the card to him. "Swipe it."

Xie Yu asked, "Is this enough for the two of us? Is there anything else you want to eat?"

Shen Ci naturally shook his head.

Xie Yu estimated the food intake for the two of them and still said, "Let's add a side of macaroni."

Shen Ci's face turned pale. "Wait..."

The next second, the card touched the machine, and a harsh prompt tone sounded: "Sorry, insufficient balance on the card. Please recharge promptly."

Shen Ci gripped the corner of his clothes, feeling a bit embarrassed.

He and Xie Yu were inherently people from two different worlds. Young Master Xie never ate at a cafeteria, and the one rare time he came, Shen Ci couldn't even afford to pay for a single meal.

The cafeteria auntie pushed the card back. "Not enough money, go recharge and come buy again."

In her eyes, it was merely that Shen Ci had forgotten to add money. Only Shen Ci himself knew that the balance on his meal card was never enough for the combo meal at this window plus macaroni.

Shen Ci took the card and turned around. "Sorry, I'll go recharge first..."

But he couldn't take a single step.

Xie Yu pressed down on his shoulder and effortlessly pulled the card from his hand. He gave Shen Ci a glance. "Where are you going? I'll do it."
